DIY online retailer optimises and product data supply

The start of spring also marks the start of the outdoor season. But before firing up the barbecue, many DIY enthusiasts like to embellish their house and garden. From lawnmowers to hedge clippers, from vacuum cleaners to garden vacuums - the online shop has everything they desire. The novomind iSHOP and novomind iPIM software has now made the e-shop of the joint venture between Otto Group and hagebau Group fit for the spring.

The new online shop was realised in the space of only five months. Thanks to the close cooperation between the novomind experts and the baumarkt direkt staff making up the development team, the Hamburg-based company’s IT Department will in future be able to take care of the further development of the shop. 

In conceptual terms, baumarkt direkt has opted for the traditional separation between the desktop/tablet channel on the one hand and the mobile channel on the other hand ( The shop is characterised by high performance – in spite of the large number of products, product data and the permanently high traffic, it boasts short loading times. “We have already noticed that novomind iSHOP has greatly improved the conversion rate in the mobile segment,” says Jörn Hartig, Head of E-Commerce at baumarkt direkt.

Real-time updates for products and content

The huge amount of product data is handled by novomind iPIM, the product information management system for omni-channel commerce. “Real-time updates allow us to respond even more effectively to our customers’ needs and try new strategies to position us even better in the market,” says Jörn Hartig.

For the connection of novomind iSHOP and iPIM, both systems exploit the advantages of in-memory computing and facilitate changes and updates in a matter of seconds. novomind iSHOP technology works entirely without caching and slow hard disks. Each page delivered is calculated in real time.
