The Hamburg-based software company novomind has won the special prize for corporate culture at the “Hamburg’s best employer 2011” awards. The IT company, which has more than 100 staff, received the three-star seal as one of the Hamburg region’s top employers at the official prize-giving ceremony on 19 January.
Employees and managers agree
Short decision-making channels, flat hierarchies and an unbureaucratic style are what go to make up the corporate culture at novomind. Its staff praised the company as imaginative, resourceful and self-assured. What clinched the award for “Hamburg’s best employer” was the uniform assessment delivered by the 84 staff and managers who were asked. The more consensus there was, the higher up the rankings a company came.
Company as personality
The evaluation model was based on the idea of perceiving your own company as a personality. This was developed by Professor Werner Sarges of the Helmut-Schmidt University, and made it easier for those asked to provide a personal assessment of their employer. Standardised criteria also ensure that this method makes it very easy to compare the companies taking part.
