Readers can now obtain the digital publications of Club Bertelsmann directly via the “tolino shine” eBook reader on the “tolino” online platform.
The Club’s eShop is based on a solution developed by software provider novomind, which the latter has planned and implemented in close cooperation with Deutsche Telekom. The Hamburg-based eBusiness experts have a long track record of developing and implementing high-performance solutions for the modern Internet world, especially in the field of eCommerce software.
Internet technology for eReaders
“We have adapted Internet technology to the specific requirements of an eBook reader,” says Thomas Köhler, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of novomind. “This requires innovative and flexible software development.”
For Club Bertelsmann, novomind has developed a dedicated shop directly on the “tolino-shine” eReader. The developers from Hamburg also introduced a special check-out function which allowed Club Bertelsmann’s eBooks to be integrated into the existing shops atwww.derclub.de, www.otto-media.de and www.donauland.at. The digital publications cannot only be purchased in these shops but also be read online. Last but not least, novomind implemented open authentication (OAuth) supporting an SSO function for Deutsche Telekom’s cloud, which allows users to sign on for the webshop, the tolino shop or via iOS or Android app. Purchased or imported contents are permanently saved in the cloud free of charge and can be accessed via different terminals. This is a genuine competitive advantage for the tolino partners.
Tolino: leading platform for digital reading
On 7 March, Germany’s four leading booksellers, Thalia, Weltbild, Hugendubel and Club Bertelsmann, and Deutsche Telekom jointly launched the digital “tolino” eBook platform including the “tolino shine” eReader. The online platform started with over 300,000 publications, making it one of the largest sources of eBooks in the German market. It is the shared objective of all partners to make tolino one of the leading platforms for digital reading, which is why they plan to expand the range of eBooks continuously.
“novomind can implement eCommerce solutions regardless of the device and on virtually any channel. We are therefore very proud to have been able to bring our multi-channel commerce experience to bear in this project for Club Bertelsmann,“ says Thomas Köhler.
Since 1999 Hamburg-based novomind has been developing innovative eBusiness software solutions for the modern Internet world in four e-business segments: eCommerce (eShops and zoom server), PIM (Product Information Management), eMarketplace (marketplace integration) and eCommunication (solutions for contact and service centres).
In each of these performance segments, novomind ranks among the technology leaders in Europe. The company covers the entire digital value chain of trade and electronic customer communications. novomind provides eCommerce operators with comprehensive advisory services on the selection of suitable IT systems.
novomind currently serves more than 80 companies, including Targobank, Der Club Bertelsmann, Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund, Ernsting’s family, EnBW, OTTO, QVC and Sixt.
