novomind stands for modern omni-channel business – the Hamburg-based software firm has developed innovative solutions for successful e-commerce and effective customer service for 15 years. The software experts’ annual conference on 1 October therefore served to showcase the company’s achievements and celebrate its anniversary at the same time. Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz congratulated on novomind’s 15th year in business. Over 300 guests attended the event at the CURIO House marking a new record for “novoinsight”. This year’s motto: “Wie das digitale Ich uns bestimmt” (“How we are influenced by the digital self”).

In his opening address, Peter Samuelsen, founder and CEO of novomind, highlighted the company’s steady growth over the past 15 years and expressed his satisfaction with growing sales revenues and numerous new customers also in 2015. “We make high demands on ourselves and our products,” Samuelsen said, adding that the company has always been driven by the will to develop the world’s most user-friendly software solutions. This includes developing new ideas, concepts and offerings all the time. “Our developments are designed to enable our customers to develop their own applications to complement our products,” Samuelsen explained. “We call this special offering ‘OPEN’. Opening our software is the precondition for growth and successful internationalisation.”

Future trends of the digital life

Thematically speaking, novoinsight 2015 was a journey into the world of the digital self. In his keynote address, trend researcher Professor Peter Wippermann described consumers’ wishes in the networked society, thus providing the academic basis for one of the key challenges of e-commerce, namely the question of how to deal with the customer journey. If you wish to optimally satisfy customer wishes, e-commerce and customer service must be combined effectively.  

The program tracks provided numerous best case examples from both fields; the highlight in the e-commerce segment was the live presentation of Deutsche Post’s new “POSTIDENT Video” identification procedure. This digital media discontinuity free option opens up many possibilities to the online world to get even more up close and personal with the customer. A live switch to the high-tech call center in Flensburg illustrated the performance and the future potential of this new development.

The E-Commerce/PIM segment showed various facets of the product universe of novomind iSHOP, novomind iPIM and other solutions. One of the highlights was the presentation by baumarkt direkt, the joint venture of Otto Group and . baumarkt direkt GmbH & Co KG, the market-leading DIY mail-order company in Germany, spoke about its flexible shop management system based on novomind iSHOP and novomind iPIM. Both systems take advantage of the benefits of in-memory computing and allow updates and changes to and in the web shop to be made in split seconds. Real-time updates ensure maximum flexibility and customer proximity.
