New smartphone app “Treasure Points” unites the geocaching principle with mobile voucher functions
Treasure Points: geocaching with virtual vouchers
The Hamburg software house novomind is joining forces with start-up ELBventure to develop a new platform for location-based services. The smartphone app “Treasure Points” enables vouchers to be placed anywhere in the world, opening up new sales opportunities to advertisers. For novomind it means building on their own business strategy of merging different devices in e-commerce (cross-device commerce).
Megatrend: geo-social networking
“Treasure Points work very much like the personal treasures people look for in geocaching,” explains Thomas Drews, Managing Director of ELBventure. “Retailers and traders place their vouchers in all kinds of places and invite app users to go and find them. If a user gets near a voucher, he gets to see the discount and the shop where the voucher can be redeemed. Users can either search actively, or they can get the app to tell them which vouchers are nearby.”
“Treasure Points” has been available at the App Store since 1 October 2011
The Treasure Points app was put up in Apple’s App Store at the beginning of October 2011. Users with devices that use the Android operating system should be able to get the app shortly before Christmas. For more information about Treasure Points visit the website: www.treasurepoints.de.
Rising demand for location-based services
All in all, the business potential in location-based services is especially promising: “More than 40 per cent of Germans are now using mobile devices like smartphones and laptops actively,” says Peter Wiedekamm, Technical Director of novomind, “and around 28 per cent would like to use more location-based services in the future. Mobile information and services are especially interesting to young people. There is a potential for those apps of up to 60 per cent in the up-to-30s age group.”
“Treasure Points” are being developed in a joint venture between novomind AG and ELBventure which focuses on mobile applications for e-commerce and has been ongoing since July 2011.
Since 1999, Hamburg-based novomind has been developing innovative e-business solutions in four disciplines for the modern Internet world.
