Online retailers in Germany can prepare themselves for good sales even before Christmas trade begins, as many Germans are planning to order goods online in the near future. The newly introduced novomind Buying Power Index registers 100.2 points, meaning that the amount of money spent by consumers will increase. This is because the number of online shoppers who definitely plan to make Internet purchases by October is greater than the number of consumer sceptics who are holding back.Outlook: stable orders for media, fashion and electronics

Four out of ten online shoppers already know that they will make a range of media purchases over the Internet in the coming weeks. The first of its kind, novomind’s Buying Power Index reveals expectations in online retail based on a representative survey of Internet customers. Online shoppers are captured in such a way that they represent the entire online community in terms of age and gender distribution. The Index encompasses which products customers have bought online in the last three months and which products they intend to buy online in the next three months.
