Otto Versand Online takes on the Easter hare

Hamburg, Germany, 26th March, 2001. Let me introduce myself. The name’s Hare.
"Hans Hare". With this friendly greeting, the Otto Versand’s new, virtual sales adviser greets
customers visiting the mail order company’s internet site.

The latest addition to the Hamburg-based novomind AG’s agent family has been online since 22nd
March. He was set up using the novomind IQ™ software for Interactive Personable Intelligent
Agents (IPI Agents™). The Hamburg strategy and eBusiness consultants, HALOGEN AG, were responsible
for the animation and design, as well as the HTML Front End, for the Otto Versand Easter web event.
IPI agents advise online customers in realtime and provide them with suggestions as they search
for a gift. They react to input with flexible answers and responses, whilst guiding the user to
specific website contents such as prize draws. The open architecture of novomind IQ™ enables the
shop assistants to be integrated seamlessly into existing eCommerce applications. This meant that
the Easter hare could be launched online within a period of only four weeks.
Following in the footsteps of Rudi the reindeer, who was online last year to advise Otto Versand’s
customers during the Christmas shopping season, the little hare with the long ears is the second
"seasonal" assistant to feature in the mail order company’s online shop. He will be online at
www.otto.de until Easter to advise customers. "The personal touch is becoming a major tool for
online shops looking to ensure customer loyalty," says Dr. Thomas Schnieders, Otto Versand’s head
of New Media. "These agents have enabled us to introduce innovative technology to our website and
significantly increase otto.de’s image."
