novomind IQ™ – web agents with a future
  Hamburg, March 2000 – novomind IQ™ is an intelligent software solution developed by novomind AG to simulate human conversation. novomind IQ™ allows virtual web agents to be created to provide a personalized interface between companies and clients. These virtual web agents, or IPIs™ (Interactive Personable Intelligent agents) appear as specific characters and guide website visitors interactively and in real time dialog through the internet session. They are able to provide automated one-to-one marketing, individual service and information. With the incorporation of external databases (encyclopedias, stock exchange data etc.), the user is able to request further information from the internet in everyday language and without having to resort to boolian terminology. IPIs™ are also able to record data, create user profiles and – when the user returns – refer back to the profiles or send the user an e-mail.
novomind IQ™ has a modular structure and can be utilized in the following sectors:

novomind's leading position in the IPI™ agent technology sector is due to the large number of server platforms which can be utilized, the interfaces to popular eCommerce systems (e.g. Intershop) and a permanently configurable knowledge base. This means that novomind IQ™ can be adapted to individual client needs with relative ease, meaning that it is also an effective solution from an economic perspective.

Further features:

  • A rule-based Composer allows administrators to set up a knowledge base, even without programming experience.
  • An administration tool is used to evaluate user dialogs and ensure that existing knowledge is fully utilized, which in turn leads to a significant "increase in agent intelligence".
  • The software uses the ltest technologies / programming languages, including, for example, Java and Corba.

How an IPI agent™ is created:

  • Initially, a character is developed that reflects the company that it will represent. At the same time, background information, such as origin, social environment and personality, is evaluated. During this phase, the agent's appearance is also defined.
  • Secondly, the first "brain" is set up according to the sector in which it will be utilized. This brain contains the basic functions and is then adapted to its future "life".
  • The next stage involves the incorporation of further external or internal databases, so that the IPI™ can access various information sources.
  • Now it is "back to school" and the IPI™ just has to keep on learning and learning and learning…
